How did they help the slaves?
The slaves were helped all the way through the civil war. They would have safe houses that had hidden compartments in the house where they would hide all the slaves. if anyone was suspicious, they would hide in the compartments and never be found. They would lead slaves over the border and find them a house. Any slave was welcome to cross the border.
Abraham Lincoln was a really big help too. He passed law that said no slavery in the north. and helped fight the war to go against slavery. He was a beacon to no slavery. They all liked him but he really did not fight any wars. he was never on the battle ground. he did speak ant Gettysburg and that speech became known as the Gettysburg address.
